Volunteering with LMCJS

H.O.M.E. at Lillie May Carroll Jackson Charter School

OVERVIEW

H.O.M.E. at Lillie May is the volunteer organization for Lillie May Carroll Jackson Charter School (LMCJS).  We are dedicated to raising awareness about Lillie May by promoting and facilitating volunteerism that assists our scholars and promotes the mission of our school.  In addition, LMCJS is dedicated to helping H.O.M.E. members learn about current issues in education and education reform at the local, state and national level.

Everyday scholars at Lillie May learn under the roof of their H.O.M.E. which stands stand for Habits of Mind Expectations.  Habits of mind support our students’ academic success and reflect the values of the school. They are synonymous with performance character skills - skills needed to obtain excellence in academic or real-world endeavors. Lillie May’s Habits of Mind Expectations are:  Active Citizenship, Inquiry, Perseverance, Responsibility, Collaboration, and Integrity.  Scholars learn and implement these habits and are held accountable for them.

LMCJS Mission

The mission of the Lillie May Carroll Jackson School, named for the “mother of civil rights” in Baltimore and Maryland, is to create an experiential learning community for Baltimore City middle school girls, grades 5 – 8. Our core belief is that changing girls’ lives changes the world. Our aim is to develop 21st century learners with a strong sense of community through rigorous academic course work, high quality adventure experiences, character development and leadership opportunities. Our girls will graduate from school prepared for the most rigorous college preparatory high schools.

LMCJS Vision

The Lillie May Carroll Jackson School envisions a world where all young women, regardless of their background, have the skills, tools and qualities to succeed in college, and to develop as leaders in their communities and the world.

H.O.M.E. at Lillie May is about getting involved with and being invested in Baltimore City’s public school system and its students through an authentic connection with Lillie May Charter School.

At Lille May school leaders, teachers, scholars and families collaborate to create and sustain a school community where learning is challenging, active, meaningful, and public.   Join us in this exciting and important adventure.

H.O.M.E. at Lillie May is about defining personal outreach in terms of the positive impact on the education of young girls in Baltimore City.

Dollars and cents are essential to the work of Lillie May, but other forms of giving can make all the difference.  We promote volunteer activities that fit the busiest of schedules so no matter what you can positively impact our scholars and our school.

H.O.M.E. at Lillie May is about a commitment to motivate others to engage.

Our core resource is people. Through word of mouth and the creation of fun events, activities, and on-site opportunities, we hope to become a large and lasting part of what makes the Lillie May Carroll Jackson a unique place for girls.

H.O.M.E. at Lillie May is about people helping people. It is about you.

Sometimes the smallest thing we do remains in someone’s memory. Please join us.

OUR INITIATIVES

H.O.M.E. at Lillie May dedicates itself to the Lillie May Carroll Jackson Charter School and our scholars. In addition, H.O.M.E at Lillie May will offer members the opportunity to learn about issues in education and education reform at the school, city, state and national level.

Alumni support – we plan to work with the Director of Climate and Culture as she creates an alumni network for our graduates.  We feel it is important to stay connected to our scholars as they move to into and through high school.  LM will always be their H.O.M.E.  and we want them to feel welcome here.  Events and initiatives for alumni are to be developed in concert with the Director of Culture and Climate.

School Store – once a month, Lillie May opens its school store for families to purchase uniforms.  Volunteers assist  families  as well as organize inventory.
