Legacy & Special Giving
A life of meaning.
A legacy
still growing.
Honor the people who shaped you. Support the purpose that moves you. Help open possibilities for the girls who come next.

A legacy lives in what it makes possible
Some gifts begin
with a person.
Others begin
with a purpose.
Our school bears the name of a woman who brought people and resources together to advance justice. Her story reminds us that a legacy can live through institutions, opportunities, and the people prepared to carry a purpose forward.
At Lillie May, a meaningful gift can honor someone you love while supporting the learning, creativity, and leadership of Baltimore girls.
A tribute to someone you love. A commitment to girls’ futures.
Memorial & honorary giving
Keep their
influence growing.
Celebrate a teacher, family member, friend, or community leader with a gift in their honor or memory.
Use any available giving method and include the honoree’s name plus Annual Fund or an agreed campaign purpose. On Givebutter, you can also select Give in honor/memory. Share recognition and private notification requests with the school.
For a particular restricted purpose or named fund, contact us before giving so we can confirm the arrangement together. Share notification details privately.
Choose the intention before the instrument
A tribute, a purpose,
or a gift for the future?
The person you honor, the purpose of your gift, and the way you give are connected—but they are not the same decision. We can help you bring them together.
| Your intention | What it means | A helpful next step |
|---|---|---|
| Honor or remember someone | A tribute can accompany general school support. Recognition does not by itself create a separate fund. | Use the honor/memory field and tell us about any private notification request. |
| Support an agreed purpose | A restricted gift is accepted for a particular purpose confirmed with LMCJ. | Discuss the purpose and terms before giving or organizing a collection. |
| Create a named fund | A name can connect gifts around a shared legacy. How and when funds may be used requires agreement. | Agree on the purpose, goal, timeline, recognition, and review process. |
| Build an endowment | An endowed gift requires separately approved terms for long-term stewardship and spending. | Begin a conversation; a tribute balance or anniversary is not an automatic endowment trigger. |
| Include LMCJ in future plans | A planned gift describes a future intention. Its purpose still needs to be clear. | Confirm receiving details and discuss your wishes with LMCJ and your advisors. |
Named gifts & lasting support
Begin with what
you hope to make possible.
We welcome conversations about gathering gifts around a shared legacy or sustaining a school purpose over time.
01 / Your intention
Tell us the story.
Who do you want to honor? What school purpose matters to you? We begin by listening.
02 / A shared agreement
Shape the gift.
Together, we confirm the purpose, use, recognition, and terms before inviting gifts for a named fund.
03 / Thoughtful stewardship
Plan for its future.
For a fund that is building over time, we agree on progress reviews and what happens if its goal is not reached.
An endowed gift requires a separate written agreement and approved terms. A tribute or named gift does not automatically become an endowment when it reaches a balance or anniversary.
Other ways to carry your commitment forward
A gift with
your purpose
at its heart.
Let us help you coordinate the next step with your fund sponsor, broker, or advisors.
Donor-advised funds
Contact us to confirm the receiving charity’s legal name, tax identification number, mailing details, and any intended designation before recommending a grant. Please request a grant without tickets, meals, auction items, or other personal benefits.
Stocks & securities
Contact us before initiating a transfer. We will confirm acceptance and provide current, verified receiving instructions. Through the agreed private channel, share the security, approximate number of shares, expected date, donor name, and intended purpose.
We will confirm receipt and provide an acknowledgment describing the gift. Your advisors can help determine its tax treatment and value.
Wills, trusts & beneficiary gifts
A future gift can carry your commitment to girls’ education into the next generation. You might consider a percentage, a specific amount, or a share of what remains after other wishes have been fulfilled.
Contact us to confirm LMCJ’s legal receiving details and discuss any intended purpose before your advisor prepares documents. Sharing your plans is optional, and we will respect your recognition preferences.
Before you gather others around a legacy
Start with a story.
Make the next steps clear.
Can friends and family give toward the same tribute?
Yes. Contact us before circulating a collection so we can confirm the purpose, the wording supporters should use, and how gifts will be identified. For a general tribute, the giving page can remain the same; the honoree’s name can be entered in the tribute field.
If the intention is a restricted or named fund, agree on that arrangement first so every donor receives a consistent explanation.
What should a named-fund agreement cover?
Discuss the name and purpose, who may give, how contributions are identified, whether gifts may be spent as received, the fundraising goal and review date, recognition preferences, and what happens if the goal is not reached or the original purpose cannot continue.
A proposed award also needs agreed eligibility, selection, and funding terms before anyone is promised an award. Contact us to develop the arrangement together.
Can I share a planned-giving intention without a public announcement?
Yes. You may begin with a private conversation and tell us your recognition preferences. You do not need to send complete estate documents or account information by email to ask an initial question.
Your advisors can help with the legal language and arrangements. Contact LMCJ to confirm the correct receiving information and discuss any proposed restrictions before documents are finalized.
Your purpose. Your way to give.
Choose a campaign.
Choose how you give.
Choose the school purpose or open campaign you want to support, then choose an available way to give. Please write the campaign name and year, or “Annual Fund,” in the memo, designation, or note field where available. For a tribute, include the honoree’s name as well.
If there is no note field, contact us with your name, gift date, amount, and intended campaign so we can identify your gift. Please confirm a closed campaign, new restriction, named fund, or endowment arrangement with us before giving.
PayPal
Use our existing PayPal option. Add your campaign or Annual Fund designation where a note is available, or contact us separately to identify the gift.
Givebutter
Use the campaign’s own donation page, or choose Donate on our general hub and include the campaign name and year in the available note or comment field.
Check
Write the campaign name and year, or Annual Fund, in the memo. Confirm the check payee with us before mailing to LMCJ, 2200 Sinclair Lane, Baltimore, MD 21213.
Donor-advised fund
Ask us to confirm legal recipient details and campaign eligibility before recommending a grant. Include your intended campaign in the grant purpose. DAF grants should not pay for tickets, merchandise, or personal benefits.
Employer matching
Ask whether your employer can match an eligible gift. Tell us which original gift and campaign the match relates to so we can connect the records.
Stock or another arranged gift
Discuss the campaign, timing, and gift with us first. Securities, transfers, pledges, and special arrangements require confirmed acceptance and verified instructions before you proceed.
Already gave? Tell us about your gift →
Gifts received through PayPal, checks, or another method are included in the relevant campaign’s public total after staff verify and record them. They may not appear immediately. Your payment confirmation and the school’s acknowledgment help document your gift.
These options are for charitable gifts. Tickets, registrations, dues, merchandise, and sponsorships with benefits follow their own payment instructions; a donation memo does not reserve admission or purchase an item. Existing recurring gifts can continue through their current service.
A community behind every scholar
Help write what comes next.
Your generosity joins a community that believes in the intellect, imagination, and leadership of Baltimore girls.
