Rooted in legacy. Growing leaders.
Our scholars learn the world by standing in it.
Niagara Falls this spring. Beijing and Accra next summer. Paris behind us. Every year, Lillie May scholars leave Sinclair Lane and come back with a wider sense of what belongs to them.
I AM. I CAN. I WILL. END OF STORY.
Global leadership is part of the curriculum, not an extra.
We are Baltimore’s only tuition-free public all-girls middle school, serving 5th through 8th grade. Our scholars study Mandarin, perform, argue policy, and lead their own classrooms. Travel is where all of that gets tested.
A girl who has navigated an airport, ordered a meal in a second language, and taught a room full of adult educators knows something about herself that no lesson plan can hand her. That is the work: scholars who can stand anywhere in the world and take up their space in it.
Dr. Lillie May Carroll Jackson organized across a city and changed a state. We are raising the next set of women who will do that on a larger map.
Where we’re going
Three trips ahead of us. Each one asks our scholars to do something they have not done before, in a place they have not been.
Ontario, Canada
SPRING 2027
Niagara Falls
Our longest-running trip, and for many scholars the first time they cross an international border. It is where the habit starts: passports, itineraries, a bus full of girls learning how to travel together.
- Open to scholars across grade levels
- First passport, first border crossing for many
- Chaperoned by LMCJ faculty and crew leaders
北京 · 西安
JUN 24 – JUL 3, 2027
China
Our Mandarin scholars will use the language where it lives. Ten days of educational immersion in Beijing and Xi’an, led by our Chinese teacher and crew leader: historic sites, language practice, food, a kung fu class, and the Great Wall under their own feet.
- Scholars in grades 5 through 8
- Mandarin study put to work in Beijing and Xi’an
- $4,550 per scholar, family-funded with fundraising support
Republic of Ghana
JUL 12 – 20, 2027
Ghana
A cultural and leadership journey featuring the LMCJ Dance G.E.M.S. Lillie May was invited to the GhaLLA summit in Accra to dance twice and to lead a Student Voice class for educators from across the continent. Our scholars are not attending this conference. They are teaching at it.
- Two scholar dance performances
- A scholar-led Student Voice class; LMCJ sponsors the strand
- Every scholar travels with a parent or guardian
Where we have been
The trips behind us are why the next ones are possible.
Ontario, Canada
YEAR AFTER YEAR
Niagara Falls, year after year
Class after class of Lillie May scholars has made this trip. Girls who had never left Maryland came back holding a stamped passport, and a good number of them went on to Paris and are now packing for Beijing and Accra.
Republic of South Africa
BEFORE 2020
South Africa
Our first international delegation, taken before the pandemic. South Africa is where this school proved to itself that our girls belong on any continent, and it set the expectation every trip since has had to meet.
République Française
SUMMER 2026
Paris
Our dancers performed abroad for the first time, with chaperones, parents, and community members traveling alongside them. Paris set the model we build every trip on now: family-funded, community-supported, scholar-centered.
- Scholar dance performances abroad
- Parents and community members traveled with the delegation
- Funded by participating families and trip fundraising
Thank you to everyone who got these girls to France.
Help our scholars see the world. Change the world.
