Girls Charter School, Inc.

The Institution Behind the Mission

GCSI Highlights | 2026

Our school is the heart of our work. Our organization is the foundation that helps it thrive.

Girls Charter School, Inc. is the nonprofit organization that operates Lillie May Carroll Jackson Charter School and oversees the institutional relationships and resources necessary to sustain our mission.

We believe that educating girls well requires more than an exceptional school day. It requires sound governance, enduring partnerships, financial responsibility, and the courage to imagine opportunities that extend beyond a single institution.

01 | Building for the Long Term

Our Charter Renewed Through 2029

The renewal of Lillie May’s charter through June 2029 affirms the continuation of our mission in Baltimore City.

It also brings clear responsibilities. Our work includes strengthening the school’s academic outcomes, financial position, and organizational systems. We approach these responsibilities with seriousness and a commitment to measurable improvement.

Our Board of Directors and organizational leadership play an essential role in ensuring that the decisions we make today position our institution to serve future generations.

A mission this important deserves a foundation built to last.

02 | Extending the Mission

Learning, Leadership & Opportunity Beyond One Campus

Through participation in the Mid-Atlantic Deeper Learning Hub, relationships with other schools, and international learning opportunities, GCSI is helping connect the LMCJ experience to a broader educational community.

These relationships provide opportunities for scholars and educators to engage with new perspectives, strengthen their practice, and contribute to conversations about the future of teaching and learning.

Our international learning initiatives—including experiences associated with Paris, China, and Ghana—reflect a commitment to expanding the horizons of Baltimore’s girls.

We believe that the most effective institutions do more than benefit from good ideas. They contribute to them, share them, and create opportunities for others to learn alongside them.

03 | Stewarding Our Future

An Extraordinary Investment in Institutional Sustainability

The $2.8 million philanthropic gift received by GCSI and used to retire the primary mortgage on our historic school property marks a significant strengthening of our long-term foundation.

This investment connects the work of GCSI and its affiliated property-stewardship entity, Paquin-Stith.

Together, they protect the physical assets and community relationships that support Lillie May’s future.

Retiring the primary mortgage strengthens our financial position, but our responsibility does not end there. Continued facilities stewardship, thoughtful capital planning, and financial discipline are necessary to protect this important community asset.

The gift represents an extraordinary act of confidence in the enduring value of educating young women and sustaining the institution that serves them.

Our Continuing Commitment

Educational Excellence. Institutional Sustainability. Community Impact.

These commitments guide how Girls Charter School, Inc. leads, invests, and plans for the future.

We are proud of the work that happens at Lillie May every day. And we are equally committed to ensuring that the organizational foundation supporting that work is strong, responsible, and enduring.
